What we take away from camp is lifelong.
The relationships, the ability to work together in a small group, the love of the outdoors, and the ability to grow by learning new skills stay with us all our lives.
This was well demonstrated this past August when four trippers from the sixties - in their sixties - ventured with their offspring and other friends to the Spanish River for a weeks of paddling, portaging, communing with nature and sharing stories around the campfire.
The Spanish has many runs of class 1 and 2 whitewater, and this made for a great deal of fun. It also provided an opportunity for one of the one-time CWP trippers to grow. He hadn’t had any whitewater experience and was hesitant to paddle stern through the rapids, but after a couple of days of seeing how it was done from the bow, he was able to build up the courage to paddle stern and the huge grin on his face after he navigated his first set of rapids was ample testimony to his huge feeling of accomplishment.
Paul King, Peter Carlen, John “Sudsy” Sutcliffe and Bobby Cherniak look forward to more full moons and beautiful sunsets on trip, and to hearing about other White Piners still tripping many years after their time at CWP.
