Our Leadership Program For 15 & 16 Year Olds

The Training Village is a two-year program that develops leadership skills, teaches responsibility within a small group setting and helps to prepare you for future life and staff experiences. There are many leadership opportunities offered within the program, and Pre-CIT's and CIT's are expected to be actively and enthusiastically involved on a consistent basis.

Participation in the Pre-CIT program does not guarantee acceptance into the CIT program the following summer, and participation in the CIT program does not ensure acceptance onto staff the following year.
Campers need to do well in the program to be considered for the following year. At the end of the summer, you will receive a letter from your Pre-CIT counsellor or CIT Co-Ordinator which will indicate whether or not you are asked back. Typically, most campers are asked back, and all campers who excel in the leadership training program are asked to return the following summer.
To help give you a better understanding of the program and what we are looking for, please read the enclosed information. Feel free to call Adam if you have any questions.

What We Are Looking For

Positive Attitude
Your attitude towards your peers, others' personal property, learning, participation, and village and camp rules, will largely determine how productive your experience will be. When evaluating Pre-CIT's and CIT's, one's attitude toward all aspects of camp life is considered first and foremost.

Acceptance
We expect that all Pre-CIT's and CIT's will create an "accepting" environment in the Training Village, one in which every camper and staff is treated respectfully, and everyone is accepted as part of the group. It is also necessary for Pre-CIT's and CIT's to reach out to each other in order that the section becomes a cohesive unit.

Initiative and Effort
While the Training Village program offers many opportunities to develop leadership skills, it is important to be self-motivated. You will get the most out of the program if you initiate ideas, work hard, accept feedback, and develop skills during different leadership opportunities.

General Information

Campers are expected to participate in various activities over the course of the summer. These include:
  • Canoe Trip (mandatory for everyone in July).
  • Placements: 4-day placements in activitity areas and cabins. (Pre-CIT's usually are placed in activity areas only).
  • Planning Village programs.
  • Planning programs for younger age groups and for the entire camp.
  • Drama Production.
  • Extra canoe-trips (optional) and other out-of-camp trips.
  • Camp Activities.
It is a very busy program. While campers are evaluated in these areas, it is the camper's attitude, acceptance of others, initiative and effort on a daily basis that are considered to be of most importance.
